Section 01 - Could it be suitable?

Could Spinal Decompression Be Suitable for You?

IDD Therapy may be considered for selected patients with:

  • Persistent back pain, neck pain or sciatica
  • A diagnosed slipped, bulging, herniated or prolapsed disc
  • Degenerative disc changes
  • Mild to moderate spinal stenosis
  • Disc-related nerve pain or radiating symptoms
  • Persistent spinal symptoms that have not improved with appropriate conservative care

Not every back or neck problem is suitable for spinal decompression. That is why we begin with a clinical assessment and review of your history, symptoms and relevant imaging where appropriate.

If IDD Therapy is not suitable for your presentation, we will explain why and discuss the most appropriate alternatives.

Section 02 - Safety & Screening

Spinal Decompression Is Not Suitable for Everyone

IDD Therapy may be appropriate for selected disc-related spinal conditions, but careful screening is essential before treatment begins.

We do not recommend IDD Therapy where there are contraindications such as:

  • Osteoporosis or significant osteopenia
  • Spinal fusion, artificial discs or certain spinal implants
  • Recent vertebral fracture
  • Spinal tumours or metastatic disease
  • Pregnancy for lumbar treatment

Every new patient is assessed before spinal decompression is recommended. If IDD Therapy is not appropriate for your presentation, we will explain why and discuss other suitable options.

Section 03 - The Treatment

A Targeted, Computer-Controlled Spinal Decompression Programme

IDD Therapy, or Intervertebral Differential Dynamics Therapy, uses the Accu-SPINA system to apply controlled spinal decompression to selected lumbar or cervical levels.

The treatment parameters are adjusted according to the area being treated, your body weight, comfort and clinical response. The aim is to provide a gentle, progressive decompression programme while reducing unnecessary strain on surrounding structures.

IDD Therapy is typically used as part of a structured treatment plan rather than as a one-off session. Depending on your presentation, treatment may be combined with osteopathic or physiotherapy care, rehabilitation and exercise.

What does it feel like? Most patients describe a gentle stretching or pulling sensation during treatment. Sessions are adjusted to remain comfortable, and your response is reviewed throughout the programme.

Section 04 - The Programme

A Structured Spinal Decompression Programme With Regular Reassessment

IDD Therapy is usually delivered as a course of treatment rather than as a one-off session. The number and frequency of sessions depend on your presentation, clinical findings and response to treatment.

1. Initial Assessment

We review your history, symptoms, relevant imaging and suitability for spinal decompression before treatment begins.

2. Early Treatment Phase

Treatment parameters are adjusted according to your comfort, response and the spinal level being treated.

3. Progress Review

Your progress is reassessed during the programme to determine whether treatment should continue, be modified or be completed.

4. Rehabilitation & Completion

Where appropriate, treatment is combined with osteopathic or physiotherapy care, rehabilitation and exercise to support your return to normal activity.

The aim is not to keep treatment going indefinitely. We use regular reassessment to guide the programme and decide the most appropriate next step.

Section 05 - Why Back In Health?

Clinician-Led, With Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Under One Roof

Back In Health brings osteopathy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation together in one clinic. IDD Therapy is one part of that broader clinical approach, not a standalone treatment offered to every patient.

We begin with assessment and clinical reasoning. If spinal decompression is appropriate, it can be incorporated into a structured treatment plan.

If another approach is more suitable, such as osteopathic treatment, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, dry needling or high-intensity laser therapy, we can adapt the plan accordingly.

This also means your spinal decompression programme can be supported with hands-on treatment and progressive rehabilitation where appropriate.

Transparent Pricing

Our current consultation and treatment fees are published on our website, so you can review the costs before deciding whether to proceed.

One Team, Several Treatment Options

Osteopathy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, dry needling and high-intensity laser therapy are all available within the same clinic. This allows us to recommend the most appropriate combination of care rather than relying on a single treatment approach.

Section 06 - Your Next Step

Not Sure Whether Spinal Decompression Is Right for You?

Request a complimentary telephone consultation with one of our practitioners. We will ask about your symptoms, history and previous treatment and help you decide whether IDD Therapy is worth exploring.

If another treatment approach or further medical assessment appears more appropriate, we will explain that too.
